Gift guide - Tatiana de Nicolay

Once again this year, Maison Michel reinvents its gift guide by inviting friends of the House to imagine its new edition. Celebrating creative affinities and the singular perspectives of personalities close to the Maison, the guide offers a personal approach to the art of gifting.

Tatiana de Nicolay is an independent creative consultant, designer, and illustrator, renowned for her use of watercolor in her multifaceted creations.
For over four years, she lived between North Africa and South America, discovering numerous countries and cultures, and drawing inspiration from ancestral craftsmanship, landscapes, and textiles encountered along the way.

Her work is now focused on interior design, and she collaborates with renowned houses such as Diptyque, Lobmeyr, and The Invisible Collection on the creation of decorative objects. Last November, she unveiled a new upholstery and interior fabric collection with Maison Thevenon. Looking ahead to 2026, many exciting projects are on the horizon, notably with Le Bon Marché and the Spanish ready-to-wear brand Philippa 1970. To be discovered very soon.

Tatiana’s Gift Guide

Which hat would you give your mother?

When I saw the Blanche XXL hat, I immediately thought of my mother; a large woven straw hat with a naturally chic allure. It would be perfect for accompanying her summer events and signing off her always elegant silhouettes. It’s the kind of timeless piece that elevates an outfit without ever overdoing it—exactly like her. The Gina would suit her beautifully as well! For long days in the sun, when she loves accessories that are both practical and sophisticated. Its spectacular volume protects from the sun while bringing a true couture feel. It’s incredible!

Kiki, our timeless boater hat, has been reimagined in red for the upcoming season. Which loved one would you give it to?

I would choose it for my sister-in-law, who loves fashion, bold colors, and pieces with character. With her two children, she can wear it easily while adding a funky, confident touch to her everyday looks.

Which hat would you give a friend?

Ugo, this unique small hat in sewn straw, feels perfect for my Parisian friend who loves hats but prefers discreet, lightweight styles. It’s the ideal accessory to subtly complete a look without ever stealing the spotlight. I picture it perfectly with a navy blue pleated skirt, a relaxed white T-shirt, and white Mary Janes!

And for yourself?

Martine is the essential accessory I’m adding to my list—for myself! It’s ideal for wearing your hat crossbody with style and freedom. Both practical and chic, it allows you to keep your hat with you at all times without ever feeling encumbered.
