'Couvre-chef', the book of Maison Michel

To celebrate its 90th anniversary, Maison Michel is unveiling an exclusive book, published by 7L.

‘Couvre-chef’ is a title that evokes the history of this accessory, in all its forms and functions. This book stems from a dialogue between Priscilla Royer, artistic director of Maison Michel, and 7L Editions, continuing the desire to tell the story of this House of excellence.

Founded in 1936 in Paris by the Parisian milliner Auguste Michel, the House, now based at 19M, traces nine decades of exceptional savoir-faire and expertise. A craft that embodies a constant interplay between vigour and delicacy.

The book, co-written with Julien Magalhães and Boris Bergmann, encompasses both a historical and geographical perspective, situating Maison Michel within the vast heritage of headwear.

Recent campaigns, previously unpublished archives from Maison Michel, and numerous images drawn from books in Priscilla Royer’s personal collection and Karl Lagerfeld’s library at 7L illustrate the book, making it a unique object.

‘Couvre-chef, Maison Michel’ is available at the 7L bookshop and on the 7L website.
