Choosing a hat is a way of expressing your personality. A hat enhances your silhouette and highlights the features of your face. At Maison Michel, each hat is designed to be both stylish and comfortable. To help you find the perfect model, we offer a comprehensive guide to shapes, materials and sizing, suitable for both women and men.
Hat shapes
At Maison Michel, every shape and every line conveys an intention.
The Virginie fedora stands out with its structured crown and delicately downturned brim, evoking timeless elegance and instantly enriching the silhouette — a strong statement for those who appreciate reimagined classicism.
The André fedora embraces understated modernity with its shorter brim and stream-lined construction. Its versatility brings a refined urban energy that complements both sharp tailoring and a more casual wardrobe. A chameleon hat, minimalist but always perfect.
The Kiki boater makes a graphic statement with its flat crown and precisely defined straight brim. As a true style icon, it creates a confident and refined look, blending couture heritage with Riviera flair.
The Blanche wide-brimmed hat explores generous volumes and airy curves. Its expansive brim softly frames the silhouette, bringing modern romance and fluid grace to every movement.
The Tiger cap, meanwhile, revisits sporting codes with its precise construction and bold design. Uncompromisingly practical, it fuses urban spirit with handcrafted precision for those who like to inject a contemporary edge to their wardrobe.
The New Bonnie beret, enhanced with a delicate veil, reinterprets an essential piece to add poetic flair. It subtly and enigmatically creates a distinctive style with a single gesture.
Hat materials: felt, tweed and straw
The choice of material determines comfort, structure and durability - as well as the soul of each design.
Wool felt is dense and enveloping, providing natural warmth and a beautiful structure. Its rich texture allows for precise, sculpted volumes, giving hats a definitive fit. It is ideal for the colder seasons.
The more delicate rabbit felt is prized for its silky finesse and remarkable shape retention. This premium material ensures a flawless fit, revealing clean lines and pure elegance. It is preferred for highly structured creations.
For summer collections, straw offers effortless lightness. Being natural, breathable and supple, it diffuses airy freshness while protecting from the sun. The braiding gives summer hats a unique charm, perfect for creating striking silhouettes.
Finally, tweed, with its textured weave and deep tones, adds undeniable sophistication to autumn-winter designs. It is both graphic and emblematic, lending timeless refinement to berets and caps, balancing couture heritage with modernity.
Choosing a hat to suit the shape of your face
Selecting a hat means creating harmony between volumes, lines and proportions. The shape of your face naturally guides this choice, as each style calls for a specific structure.
Round faces gain definition from structured designs such as a fedora or boater. Defined crowns and clean brims create elegant vertical lines and add character to the overall silhouette.
Square faces are enhanced by softer contours. A wide-brim hat with gentle curves, such as a capeline, softens the natural geometry of the face and brings balance to the features.
Oval faces offer total stylistic freedom. Fedoras, caps, berets, boater hats or capelines - every shape works. It is the perfect opportunity to explore volume, texture and attitude.
Long faces, meanwhile, are complemented by generous brims or lower crowns. These horizontal proportions rebalance vertical length and create a harmonious look.
And while these recommendations serve as a guide, choosing a hat is above all an affair of the heart. The essential thing is to embody it fully and allow it to become a natural extension of your style.
Finding a hat to suit your head size and your style.
A hat must fit perfectly around your head to guarantee comfort and fit. A well-chosen size ensures the hat stays in place by following the natural contour of the head, without pressing or flopping.
Selecting the correct size enables the design to express itself fully. A precisely calibrated fit creates a second-skin feel, preserves the integrity of the shape and maintains the balance of the silhouette. Too tight, it restricts; too loose, it loses its refinement. When it fits just right, it simply feels natural.
Beyond design, sizing is the invisible detail that makes all the difference in a luxury hat. It enhances the way it is worn, extends durability and allows each model to express its character to the full.
