Our atelier
Since March 2021, Maison Michel has been working from the 19M site, a testament to the excellence of these trades of the future that are the Métires d’Art. Every day, hat makers and milliners craft new pieces using a unique and precious savoir-faire, handed down from generation to generation.
In the Atelier Formier, our craftsmen imagine, plan and draw perspectives, contours and movements, and sculpt in wood the hat shapes on which hat makers, milliners or designers will make their models.
From simple sketches to computer-aided design, the workshop offers a vast range of possibilities: the creation of a new shape, the translation of a size, or the renovation of old wood, as well as the realization of design objects and creative projects worked in wood.
In the Atelier Chapelier, the hat maker with the help of wood, brushes, and hammers, will give shape to the material, whether it be felt or straw.
The hat is then embellished and trimmed by the millinery workshop. The milliners’ expertise also enables them to add volume to all materials and create exceptional pieces. Meticulous and skilled, they master numerous processes such as fabric stretching, turban draping, and even sewn straw technique. Together, they give the hat all its singularity.
